    Great Starter DSLR 5/17/2015

I own a point and shoot camera but like the features of an SLR so I decided to upgrade to a DSLR. I chose the Nikon D3100 because it has enough manual features to get me back into amateur photography plus the AUTO setting that makes it easy enough for anyone else to use. I would definitely recommend this camera for someone who wants the advantages of a DSLR with the option of a point and shoot.

Amazing Camera and great value 11/13/2013

This camera is exactly what every family need. It is affordable but offers high quality images and very quick shutter response for those quick pictures. I have taken this camera on trips all over the world and been very happy with the quality of my pictures. The lens that comes with the camera is good but getting the 18-200mm is a must.

A Nikon SLR for around $400 is wonderful - I had been lusting after a good SLR for years - and finally the price has reduced to make this a reality.

    Excellent Value 4/26/2013
    Albert D. from Lake Charles

This is a great camera for the unusually low price it was offered at. I have priced this camera at other sites, and they wanted quite a bit more. This is my digital slr so my ease of use rating is a little low. I haven't had much of a chance to take picture with it yet. It just came in late this afternoon.

    Excellent Value 4/26/2013

The Nikon D3100 is perfect for our office. Great camera for novice users, but gives professional results. Easy to set up and start taking pictures right out of the box. This camera feels natural in your hands and is light weight.

    Almost like new 4/17/2013
    Dave from Oxford, MI

So far, everything works on this Nikon-reburbished camera, except for the tiny little diopter correction wheel (it can't be adjusted toward the near-sighted correction), BUT, I may not even try to have it serviced, since I almost always wear some kind of corrective lenses anyway. This is a fairly minor issue, and one that I doubt occurs very often--but still, this is the second D3100 I've purchased that wasn't perfect (the 1st one had a row of dead sensor pixels, not purchased from same store).

    James from Pensacola, FL

This is a wonderful camera, and as my first foray into the world of dSLR's, very intuitive. The on-screen guide can help you quickly set the camera up for the perfect shot, and once you're comfortable switching off of "auto" mode, the degree of adjustments that can be made are astounding.

    very good 3/18/2013

We shopped for months for the right camera, we wanted a quality image that was low fuss, it had to be useable for commercial use but also ready to go in all weather not having to mess with lenses and settings. This camera does all of that and more extremely satisfied. Much better than the Canon we had used previously.

    Fantastic Camera! 3/11/2013

I have not used any type of SLR in years. I've been a point and shoot camera kind of person. I finally decided that it was time to make the switch. I knew with a better camera I'd have much better shots of my kids. I love the camera. While I am still learning all of the functions, I've been using mostly auto mode but the pictures are amazing! I cannot wait to learn it all in manual so I can get the most out of it. Highly recommend this camera for anyone who wants to take better pictures.

I just love this Camera. This is my first SLR and I am enjoying the results of D3100 which is an awesome camera. I had lot of questions between T2i, T3 and D3100 but after much of research D3100 was a better buy for many reasons.

    Awesome 6/13/2012

This is awesome at this price point. Quiet mode is definitely a plus.- 3-inch screen is fantastic. That 2.8-inch swivel screen on the D5000 is useless. I'd rather have a larger screen for playback/review.

    Love this camera 6/12/2012

The on screen menus are great, and easy to understand. I'm familiar with Nikon D70 and D90 cameras, so learning my way around was straightforward. I don't use the Auto mode or Guide modes, but Auto does great for other people who aren't familiar with DSLRs to use the camera. The image quality exceeds my expectations, and the more I use the camera, the more I like it.

    Like it but... 6/10/2012

This is a great starter dlsr. I bought it for my daughter and she loves it but after using it she now wishes that we would have upgraded and got the d5100 that has the flip out screen. She said it takes great pictures, the auto focus is a bit slow and a little flaky at times but most of the time she is manually focusing anyway. The d5100 is an upgrade and for what she was looking for it didn't seem to be worth the extra money but she now wished we did.

    Amazing 6/9/2012

Crisp pictures with proper color saturation. Easy to use great feel. Movie quality is very good. Live switch is a very nice way to switch on and off. Very controllable setting and the presets work great for the below average user. VR works like it is suppose to for sharp pics.

    Nikons the best 6/7/2012

Nikon is one of the most recognized brand for professional camera. Even thought they cost alot, the quality of the camera is very good. I would love to have one when I have the money to buy. It had HD photos and HD video recording which is fantastic. You should buy Nikon if you want the best of the best. Nikon has very much everything that a camera needs. A good lens, body, photos , video capturing and more.

this is a great item if you are starting to use slr camera. there are more compliated ones but i would recommend starting with this one or the canon rebel if you want to get an entry level slr camera. takes good quality pics and ideal for graduation or sport events as you can use the continuous function!

    BEST CAMERA 5/9/2012

I bought the D3100 about a month ago after my D70 died. I write for magazines and have to include both product and outdoors photos with my articles. Plus: The D3100 is easier to use on a tripod than the D70 because all the info is displayed on the rear LCD, not on the top of the camera where I can't see it when the tripod is set high. The light weight and small size are major plus factors for the way I work. Controls are very easy to use and quit intuitive. The NEF and fine JPG combo is nice. I suppose the live view is a plus for some people. Photo quality, when the settings are correct, was excellent. Much nicer than my D70 when using the same lens. Minus: No remote, no grid lines, no bracketing, no Speedlight remote command mode for my 800 flash. Auto focus did not work with my 6 year-old 70~300 non-VR lens (but it works fine with my first generation 18~200 VR). BIG minus: Nikon has a firmware problem. If I am in Program mode and if the ISO Auto to "On", in dim light conditions it uses high ISO whether or not the flash is used. The auto ISO setting does not recognize the flash. Ken Rockwell pointed this out. You have to manually set the ISO when you use flash. If you use the built-in flash for fill-flash, this ISO thing will be a real issue, just as it is when the flash is your mains source of light. I don't care about the video capabilities, but the auto focus certainly does mess up the video's audio. In all, I think it's a good camera with that one serious ISO/flash flaw.

    EXCELS 4/8/2012

Which camera excels Nikon D3100($Cheap) VS. D300($1600) VS. D700 ($2,700): * Lens = The D3100 is the only camera that comes with a lens at it's normal price * ISO Performance = Tie between D3100 and D700! (It could be Nikon's new processing but the JPEG looks fantastic I was shooting D3100 on 6400iso with very little noise at all) * Low Light Focusing = D700 * Focus Speed = D700 * External Buttons & Controls for Pros = D700 * Menu Navigation = D3100 * Ease of Use = D3100 * Megapixel = D3100 (14.2) * Sensor size = D700 (Much more important than megapixels but I won't get into this) * Can use older lenses with functionality = D700 & D300 * Video = D3100 of course! 1080P video looks amazing. * Frame Rate = D300 at 6 photos a second * Weight = D3100 (light as a feather) * Ergonomics = D700 (big enough for all my finger)

    nikon makes it perfect 3/19/2012

The D3100 doesn't offer auto-bracketing but you could get it in higher levels of Nikon DSLR's if this is critical to you. The only other complaint is that the camera doesn't offer a remote shutter switch and if you want a shutter switch it will be corded (shutter switch is helpful to use to reduce vibration in long shutter speed shots -- flowing water motion capture scenery type shots).

Decent camera but can be improved. 3/3/2012

Bought it for my daughter as she seem to start her interest in photography. It is a pretty good camera and makes decent pictures for the entry level SLR. Nikon did a good job with video too. It does misses a few basic things, like bracketing. I would assume this is a must for SLR. The display is also outdated, 230000 dots, common, there are compacts out there with better screens. Though I must admit color reproduction is fine.
